The Choir

Since 1923 the Cairns Choral Society has produced ensembles and choirs for the North Queensland Eisteddfod, today known as the Festival of Performing Arts. As well as Eisteddfod competitions, the Choir and its members also perform at our annual events: Supper with the Classics and The Gala Spectacular. The Choir is also a regular performer at the Cairns and Redlynch Carols by Candlelight evenings and Festival of Cairns events. Since 1979 the Choir has been lead by our Musical Director, Mrs. Jan O’Donnell OAM. Jan’s appointment heralded an unprecedented era of success for the choir which continues till this day. The society is truly blessed to have such a talented and dedicated lady guiding our musical direction. The main focus for the choir is the Festival of Performing Arts held over the Easter Long Weekend but other choral events also take place throughout the year. To be a member you must be over 15 years old and may have to have a private audition.
